    What Volty does with Donorbox

    Donorbox gives nonprofits online donation forms, recurring giving and fundraising tools. Donorbox's API is a paid add-on that only reads, which suits Volty's job here: answering, never editing. Our team connects it with your organization's login email and API key, and Volty reads campaigns, donations, donors and recurring plans to tell a donor where their gift went or tell staff how far a goal has to go.

    How Volty connects to Donorbox

    Donorbox's API is read-only: it lists campaigns, donations, recurring plans, donors, events and tickets. It is a paid add-on, and each request authenticates with the organization's login email and an API key.

      Turn on the API add-on

      In Donorbox, open Account, then API & Zapier Integration, and select Enable API & Zapier Integration. Donorbox charges $17 a month for API access.

      Set a new key

      Select Set new API Key. Donorbox shows it once, so pass it to our team straight away over a secure channel.

      Director approves in Volty

      A workspace admin approves the connection before Volty reads anything.

      Nothing to switch off

      The Donorbox API has no write calls, so every Volty tool on this connection reads.

    Reading tools can be turned on straight away. Anything that changes Donorbox starts Off, and once on it can be set to check with staff, so each change waits for a colleague.

    Common questions

    Does connecting Volty need Donorbox's paid API?

    Yes. Volty reads Donorbox through its API, and Donorbox charges $17 a month for API access. You turn it on under Account, then API & Zapier Integration, and set a new API key. Our team builds the connection with that key and your login email, and an admin approves it once.

    Can Volty cancel or change a donor's recurring plan?

    No. The Donorbox API only reads, so Volty can tell a donor their plan's amount, status and end date, but cannot edit it. Volty points the donor to your Donorbox donor portal or hands the thread to your staff.

    Can staff ask Volty for lapsed donors?

    Yes. Volty can read donations by date, so a development director can ask in team chat who gave last year and not yet this year, and get the count and list. Contacting them is still your choice, with an approved WhatsApp template or an email.
