    What Volty does with Smokeball

Smokeball is legal practice management software with automatic time tracking for small law firms. Volty is registered as an app in Smokeball's Developer Console and holds only the OAuth scopes assigned there. A client asking what happens next on their closing or estate plan hears it from their own matter, and anything they send or ask for is proposed as a task for the right person.

    • Next step on the matter

Volty reads the matter's stage and tasks before it answers.

    • Client asks become tasks

A request is proposed as a Smokeball task for the paralegal.

    • Contact, then matter

Volty finds the Smokeball contact first and opens only the matters they are on.

    • Trust and will questions to Ken

Volty gives status and logistics; legal questions go to the attorney.

    How Volty connects to Smokeball

Smokeball's API uses OAuth 2.0 with scopes like contacts/read and matters/write, each assigned to an app in Smokeball's Developer Console. Volty requests only the scopes agreed with your firm.

    1. 01

      Register the app

Volty's app is set up in Smokeball's Developer Console with its scopes.

    2. 02

      Pick the scopes

Typically contacts and matters read, and task write if you want tasks.

    3. 03

      Firm user authorizes

A Smokeball user signs in and grants those scopes.

    4. 04

      Approve and switch

An admin approves in Volty. Creating tasks starts Off.

    The tools Volty gets

Each one is a switch on the Sources page in Volty.

    • Find the client's Smokeball contactReads
    • Read the matter's staff and stageReads
    • Read open tasks on the matterReads
    • Create a task for the paralegalChanges

Reading tools can be turned on straight away. Anything that changes Smokeball starts Off, and once on it can be set to check with staff, so each change waits for a colleague.

    Common questions

Which Smokeball permissions does Volty hold?

Only the OAuth scopes assigned to its app in Smokeball's Developer Console, such as contacts/read and matters/read, plus a task write scope if you want Volty to create tasks. A user at your firm authorizes the app, and Volty sees what those scopes allow.

Will Volty explain a will or trust to a client?

No. Volty tells the client the next step, such as the signing meeting, and books it. Questions about what a document means or which option to choose go to the attorney. Volty does not give legal advice.

Do Volty's conversations add time entries in Smokeball?

No. Volty reads the matter and can create a task for the paralegal if you switch that on. It does not record billable time; your firm's own time tracking stays as it is.

How much does it cost to connect Smokeball with Volty?

Every Volty plan includes seats, active contacts and AI credits and starts with a free 7-day trial, and the plan prices are on voltade.com/pricing. Meta bills message charges separately for WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger.
