What are click-to-WhatsApp ads?
Click-to-WhatsApp ads are Facebook and Instagram ads with a button that opens a WhatsApp chat with the advertiser instead of sending the viewer to a website.
How they work.
You run the ad from Meta Ads Manager and set WhatsApp as the destination. Someone tapping the button lands in a chat with your business, usually with a pre-filled first message such as an enquiry about the advertised product. Because the customer sends that first message, a 24-hour session window opens immediately and your team or your agent can reply in free-form text with no template involved.
Why SMEs use them.
There is no landing page to build, no form to abandon, and no email address that turns out to be fake. The lead arrives as a real WhatsApp thread with a real number attached, and the conversation can carry straight through to a quotation or a booking. Meta has historically applied more generous free messaging terms to conversations that begin from an ad, so confirm the current terms with your provider.
What you need in place.
Three things: a WhatsApp number connected to your Business Manager, someone or something ready to answer within minutes, and a way to record who came from which ad. The failure mode is not the ad, it is the reply. Paying for clicks into a WhatsApp inbox that nobody watches after six in the evening wastes budget faster than a bad creative does.
The Voltade take
Click-to-WhatsApp campaigns are where an AI agent earns its keep, because response time decides whether an ad click becomes a lead. We build agents that answer the first message immediately, qualify the enquiry, and hand a warm thread to a human with the context already captured in the CRM.
