Think of an AI agent like a new hire who's already trained. You tell it the goal, say "reply to customer enquiries on WhatsApp" or "generate quotations from email requests", and it figures out the steps. It reads messages, looks up information in your systems, decides on a response, and sends it. If something is outside its scope, it escalates to a human. Unlike a chatbot that follows a script, an agent adapts to context.
How AI agents differ from chatbots.
A chatbot follows a decision tree: if the customer says X, reply Y. An AI agent understands intent, pulls data from connected systems (CRM, inventory, booking platforms), and generates responses that are contextually accurate. A chatbot can tell you your office hours. An agent can check your calendar, find an open slot, book an appointment, and send a confirmation, all in one conversation.
