WhatsApp Error: Payment Method Required for Broadcasts

This error occurs when you try to send WhatsApp campaign broadcasts without a valid payment method configured in Meta Business Portfolio.

    Error Message

"Need to add payment method first in order to use the WhatsApp campaign broadcast feature."

    Why This Happens

WhatsApp Business API charges per template message delivered. Meta requires a valid payment method on file before you can:

  1. Send broadcast campaigns
  2. Send template messages that start a new conversation
  3. Use marketing templates

  4. How to Fix This Error

    Step-by-Step Payment Setup

    1. Go to Meta Business Portfolio

    2. Click on WhatsApp account on the left sidebar

    3. Click Payment Settings under the account

    4. Click Payment Methods on the left sidebar

    5. Scroll down to the payment methods section

    6. Click Add Payment Method

    7. Enter your credit card or payment details

    8. Save the payment method

    After Adding Payment

    1. Return to your WhatsApp platform (Voltade)

    2. Try sending your broadcast campaign again

    3. The error should be resolved

    Accepted Payment Methods

    Meta typically accepts:

  5. Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express)
  6. Debit cards
  7. PayPal (in some regions)
  8. Bank transfers (for larger accounts)

  9. Understanding WhatsApp Pricing

WhatsApp charges per template message delivered, not per conversation. Meta retired

    conversation-based billing on 1 July 2025.

  10. Template messages are charged by category and by the recipient's country. In
  11. Singapore, as of Meta's rate card effective 1 July 2026: marketing $0.0732, utility

    $0.0160, authentication $0.0160 per message.

  12. Messages inside a customer service window are free. When a customer messages you
  13. first, a 24-hour window opens and everything you send inside it costs nothing.

  14. There is no monthly free allowance. Meta removed the old 1,000-free-service-
  15. conversations tier in November 2024, so there is no quota to exhaust.

See the WhatsApp Business API pricing guide

for current rates across all markets.
