    WhatsApp Display Name Under Review: Can't Send Messages Yet

    You've connected your WhatsApp Business number. The setup completed successfully. But when you try to send a message, it fails, and there's no obvious error.

    The most likely cause: Meta is still reviewing your display name.

    When you register a new WhatsApp Business phone number, Meta requires your display name (the business name shown to customers) to pass a review before you can send outbound messages.

    This is not a bug. It's a mandatory step in Meta's onboarding process that every new WhatsApp Business number goes through.

    Some platforms surface this error clearly. Others show a generic send failure or no error at all; just messages that don't go through.

    Meta checks your display name for:

    • Brand safety. The name must match your actual business
    • Policy compliance. No misleading, offensive, or trademarked names
    • Spam prevention. Prevents fake businesses from mass-messaging users
    • Consistency. Name must align with your Meta Business Portfolio verification

    Meta does not publish how long a display name review takes. Its help centre describes the review and gives no timeframe.

    Meta does publish two related facts. A display name review is not required to start sending: you can message customers immediately after sign-up. Your requested name becomes eligible for review once your business becomes eligible for higher messaging limits.
