## WhatsApp error: unable to update contact

This error occurs when you try to save a contact with an email address that already exists for another contact in your system.

## Error Message

> "Unable to update contact. Please try again later."

## Why This Happens

Most CRM systems, including Voltade, require unique email addresses for each contact. This error occurs when:

- The email address is already assigned to another contact
- A duplicate contact exists in the system
- The contact was previously created with this email

## How to fix this error

### Option 1: use a different email address

\1. Enter a different email address for the contact

\2. Save the contact with the new email

\3. If the customer has multiple emails, use their secondary email

### Option 2: Find and Merge the Duplicate Contact

\1. Search for the email address in your contact list

\2. Find the existing contact with this email

\3. Decide which contact record to keep

\4. Merge the contact information or delete the duplicate

### Option 3: clear the email field

If the contact doesn't need an email:

\1. Clear the email field entirely

\2. Save the contact without an email address

\3. Phone number can still be used as the primary identifier
