Coexistence mode lets you use WhatsApp Business App on your phone and Envoy's Cloud API at the same time. It's convenient, but it comes with limitations you need to know.

If the primary mobile device doesn't open WhatsApp at least once every 14 days, Meta disconnects all linked devices and API connections, including Envoy.

This is the #1 cause of unexpected disconnections across Envoy customers. When this happens:

    • Your Envoy channel shows "Disconnected"
    • Messages stop appearing in your inbox
    • Chatbot and auto-replies stop working
    • The phone still works normally

Fix: Open WhatsApp on the primary phone at least once every 2 weeks. Set a calendar reminder if needed.

If you've already been disconnected, see our reconnection guide.

    LimitationDetails
Some contacts can't read API messagesContacts on very old WhatsApp versions won't see messages sent through Envoy or WhatsApp Web. They need to update their app.
Error 131060 on companion device messagesMessages sent from the phone in coexistence mode show as "unavailable" in Envoy's API logs. These are visible to the recipient but not through the API.
Session conflicts with multiple accountsRunning personal WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business on the same phone causes session conflicts that trigger disconnections. Use separate devices.
History sync gapsNot all historical messages sync perfectly. Some conversations may be incomplete after initial setup.
